CMD is a super day for investor relations – how to take advantage of the event’s opportunities

Capital Markets Day (CMD) is one of the company's most important opportunities for presenting its strategy and future direction, as well as to deepen investors’ understanding of the business. To ensure that the event and management presentations form a seamless whole, a lot happens before the moment. Bravura acted as Bittium's communications partner at the CMD held in the autumn 2025, and together with Karoliina Malmi, Vice President, Communications at Bittium, we compiled our best tips for a successful event.

When is the right time to hold a CMD?

The best time to organize a CMD is in connection with a strategy update or when the company has other significant information to tell to the market, for example, through an acquisition or a change of management. Many companies hold the event annually, every other year, or at the start of a new strategy period – regularity communicates active development to investors. In the annual calendar of investor communications, CMD usually takes place in the autumn, early spring, or early summer.

Bittium timed its Capital Markets Day 2025 successfully in many respects. “In connection with our CMD, we announced a strategy update and our new long-term financial targets. On the same day, we also announced two collaborations in line with the strategy, which supported our investment story with concrete examples. The topicality of the event was increased by the strong growth of the defense market, which boosts Bittium’s Defense & Security segment in particular,” says Karoliina Malmi.

When does the planning start?

Companies start preparing for the Capital Markets Day even months before the event. Clarifying the strategy, shaping the story, and finally polishing the presentation materials require hours of work from the management. As with any communication project, it is worth reserving time for careful planning and scheduling – and still being prepared for surprises in the final meters.

Message above all

Planning a CMD involves many details, but the most important element is a compelling message: what is the story we want the audience to remember? Why is this company an attractive investment opportunity now and in the future? Often, the story is most naturally conveyed when, in addition to the CEO and CFO, business line leaders also take part in telling it.

A successful CMD is not just a slide set, but a story about the future that investors can believe in. “The main theme of Bittium’s CMD was Accelerating International Growth, around which we built the entire event. When the main message is clear, it guides everything else: presentations, visual solutions and the management’s presence,” Karoliina Malmi describes the importance of a strong story at the event.

“Bravura provided us with valuable help in shaping and communicating the CMD story. Bravura’s team acted as a knowledgeable and reliable partner during the busy preparation period and was strongly committed to achieving a successful outcome together,” she continues.

It’s the big picture that counts

The Capital Markets Day does not end when the presentations have been held. At its live event, Bittium made good use of the opportunity to discuss its products with investors and presented them in an engaging way. A successful event also lives on social media, where it is worth communicating about CMD along the way. The video recording and compiled Q&As on the website help the audience return to the topic even after the event.

CMD communication checklist – keep these in mind when preparing for an event:

  • Whenever possible, schedule the event at a strategically and communicatively important moment.
  • Reserve time for the preparation of communication materials.
  • Condense the main messages into a compelling story for the audience.
  • Practice, practice, practice. By repeating and internalizing the story, the performance becomes authentic and credible.
  • Leverage an external perspective: a communication partner helps sharpen your messages while also acting as a good practice audience.
  • Take full advantage of the event: clarify your messages and visuals, take advantage of the encounters live and on social media – and don’t forget the follow-up communication.
