Annual and Sustainability Reports

Reporting is an essential part of business. It communicates a company’s objectives and demonstrates progress towards them. For listed companies, reporting is a legal requirement. Many other companies report voluntarily, as it helps meet stakeholders’ information needs and, ultimately, supports the business.

Bravura is an experienced annual reporting partner with a strong track record of turning complex business content into clear, compelling stories. We combine strategic thinking, precise content, and engaging visual design to create reports that resonate with investors, employees, and other stakeholders.

We design every report – from annual and integrated reports to sustainability reviews and sustainability reports – according to our clients’ needs. We deliver each project accurately and efficiently, as agreed, without the bureaucracy of a large agency.

What makes a good annual report?

An annual or sustainability report is far more than a historical record or an obligatory publication. It builds trust, strengthens the company’s reputation and shows stakeholders how the business is developing – and how clearly and transparently the company communicates that progress. At its best, an annual report brings together the company’s business, financial performance, strategy and sustainability in one clear and coherent whole.

An annual or sustainability report addresses the information needs of investors and owners, as well as other key stakeholders such as customers, employees and partners. While an annual report looks back at the past year, it also looks ahead, presenting the risks and opportunities shaping the business. Companies can use its content in communications throughout the year.

An annual report often includes information on a company’s sustainability objectives and actions, but many companies also publish a separate sustainability review or sustainability report. A range of established frameworks exist for sustainability reporting, including the EU’s CSRD, ESRS and VSME standards, as well as the international GRI Standards.

The annual reporting process with Bravura

Designing and producing an annual report requires a broad range of skills – and experience makes a real difference. As with any report, content comes first. Bravura has one of the most experienced reporting teams in the market, with a deep understanding of the requirements for both annual and sustainability reporting. We combine this expertise with strong project management and creative visual design and production.

An annual reporting project requires time and precision. Bravura’s role is to make the process as smooth as possible: we plan the process and timeline, agree on ways of working, take full responsibility for the agreed areas of work, keep the project on schedule, and communicate clearly throughout the project.

1. Concept

We start by reviewing the company’s communications objectives, investor story, and feedback from the previous year’s report. Based on this foundation, we develop the annual report concept: the key messages, structure, and content outline for each section, as well as the visual approach that aligns with the company’s brand identity.

2. Content production and layout

We produce the annual report content to meet the client’s needs and objectives. The texts are based on management interviews and existing materials, with every section shaped to support the overall narrative and key messages.

The visual identity is designed to support the written content and make the report a readable and impactful whole. We create the layout in line with the client’s visual identity, using a wide range of formats to present information: charts, infographics, tables, lists and pull quotes. We source suitable images and, where needed, arrange photoshoots. We also take care of the typesetting and logical flow of financial statement tables. We produce the layout in a digital publication format and, where required, for print as well.

3. Project management

Our project management keeps all the threads together throughout the process, allowing the client to focus on their core business. We coordinate the project timeline and collaboration between all parties, manage the tendering of subcontracted work such as translations, and proofread and cross-check the reports. Our goal is to deliver a polished, accurate, and error-free publication to the client.

Frequently asked questions about annual reporting

When should an annual report project be started?

Earlier than most people think. Concept development and content planning should begin well before the financial year-end to ensure a manageable timeline and well-considered end result. A typical project takes four to six months, depending on its scope.

How does an annual report differ from a sustainability report?

An annual report focuses on the company’s business and financial performance, primarily serving the information needs of investors. A sustainability report or sustainability review focuses on sustainability topics in accordance with frameworks such as CSRD, GRI, or VSME, and addresses the information needs of a broader range of stakeholders. An integrated report brings these topics together under one cover, presenting sustainability as an integral part of the company’s business. Bravura has the expertise to develop and deliver all these types of reports.

In what format should the annual report be published?

Most listed companies publish their annual report in a PDF format, while some companies also produce a printed version for distribution at annual general meetings, trade fairs or other events.
